Northwest Public Television with its main office and studios located in Pullman, Wash., (KWSU-TV) is among the oldest broadcast stations of its kind, having begun operation in 1962. Instructional television began as part of the WSU Libraries in 1967 and was moved to KWSU Radio-Television Services creating a complete audio/video telecommunications department (Murrow Public Media).

KTNW-TV, located in Tri-Cities, Wash., was established by local community support matched by a U.S. Department of Commerce equipment grant. Its studios are located at the Tri-Cities branch campus of WSU. The addition of KTNW doubled the audience for the service.

The combined services, now known as Northwest Public Television, operate with a mission to provide a regional source of information, arts, culture and public affairs programming to enhance the quality of life in the communities served. Northwest Public Radio is a joint licensee with NWPTV.

NWPTV's video production division for KWSU and KTNW public television, produces programming from both of the production studio facilities mentioned above.
